2019 Communication Awards

The Lodge Communications Awards recognize California lodges that are doing an exemplary job of connecting with members and the general public through traditional and modern communications tools.

Detailed descriptions of each category and links to submission forms are below.

Deadline: All entries must be received by September 2, 2019. If you choose to mail hard copy materials, allow additional time for delivery.

Prizes:
Winners will be announced on September 9, 2019. In addition to serious bragging rights, winners will enjoy:

  • Printed and framed award certificate
  • Recognition at the 170th Annual Communication during the October 19 gala and banquet
  • Recognition in the 2018-2019 Masons of California annual report

Eligibility/Rules:

  • All materials submitted must have been published or released between October 31, 2018 and July 31, 2019.
  • All California lodges (including those under dispensation and research lodges) may participate.
  • Each lodge may submit only one entry per category. Please confer with your brethren before entering to avoid duplicate submissions.
  • Lodges may enter as many categories as they desire.

BEST TRESTLEBOARD ART

Does your lodge Trestleboard regularly wow members with creative artwork on its cover or interior pages? This award recognizes outstanding original art, specifically designed for a Masonic audience and printed in a Trestleboard.

What we’re looking for:

  • Artwork that drives engagement and curiosity, elevating the quality of your publication
  • Original art created in-house by a lodge member or professional designer on your behalf
  • Excellent print quality that makes the images easy to view and engage with
  • Each lodge may submit only one Trestleboard – digital, print, or both

BEST SOCIAL MEDIA

Do your members build connections with each other, their community, and even the world thanks to your great social media? This award recognizes the lodge with the best overall content in one or more social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, etc.).

What we’re looking for:

  • Friendly, relevant, and grammatically accurate messaging, appropriate for both lodge members and the community
  • A variety of posting formats to encourage engagement and participation
  • Postings are appropriate for members and the general public
  • Demonstrated engagement (likes, comments, member posts, etc.)
  • Lodges that demonstrate excellence on a single platform are welcome to apply. Entries will be judged on overall mastery of social media strategy.

BEST WEBSITE

Is your lodge website a frequently used resource for the community and prospective members to learn about local Masonry? Does it include up-to-date event information and other resources for members? This award recognizes lodges that maximize their online presence through a professional and engaging website.

What we’re looking for:

  • Friendly, relevant, and grammatically accurate messaging, that gives a welcoming perspective of the lodge to prospective members and members of the public
  • Relevant details and calls to action for activities and events
  • Lodge contact information included and easy to find
  • Design elements successfully integrated with content
  • Engaging and professional imagery
  • Navigation makes it easy for users to engage with materials and find needed information

BEST PUBLICITY

Is your lodge renowned in your area for its community efforts or public outreach over the past year? Has your lodge been mentioned by news or media outlets? This award recognizes lodges that have created impactful publicity for its efforts.

What we’re looking for:

  • Clearly articulated goals and proven success and results
  • Publicity sources required for fact-based information
  • Friendly, relevant, and grammatically accurate messaging, appropriate for your intended audience
  • Relevant details and calls to action
  • Lodge contact information is included and easy to find
